How to Make a Simple Wine Stopper from a Cabinet Door Pull

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

  1. Measure the depth to which the screw of the door pull will sink once screwed into the rubber stopper.
  2. Drill a 1/4" hole from the bottom of the stopper to the point where the screw head will be once screwed in.
  3. Drill a hole the same width of the threaded part of the screw all the way from the bottom to the top of the rubber stopper.
  4. Using a screwdriver, push the screw from the bottom of the rubber stopper through the top. You should see enough of the screw threads at the top of the stopper to be able to attach the screw to the door pull.
  5. Put some super glue around the bottom of the door (the part that will be making contact with the rubber stopper).
  6. Now screw the rubber stopper on to the door pull until they make contact with each other and hold until the glue can set.
  7. Using the screwdriver, finish screwing in the screw as far as you can.
  8. There may be some lumps and distortion in the stopper so you can just smooth those out with your fingers.
  9. Thats it. You just made a quick and stylish wine stopper for any time you aren't lush enough to finish the whole bottle.
Recommended Tools
  • Screwdriver
  • Cordless Drill
  • Drill Bits
Supply List
  • Super Glue
  • Cabinet Door Pull
  • 13/16" Rubber Stopper
General Information
  • You can use a natural cork if you would like. I chose to use a rubber stopper for more durability.
  • Make sure to use a non-toxic glue since this will be touching something that may end up in your mouth. The package should tell you if its safe to use around food.
