How to build a wooden trellis

Tuesday, August 21, 2007

I found this project on Home Depot's web site under their DIY section. I like how simple it is and built three smaller versions of these for use on my elevated deck posts. This is great for training vines on (which is what I am using mine for) and you could also use this as a nice visual screen from a busy street or even a nosy neighbor. The only thing I suggest to do differently is to use a miter saw instead of the circular saw if possible. The miter saw will give you a much cleaner, accurate cut compared to the circular saw. But if all you have is a circular saw it should be fine. Also, be careful of how the lattice will turn into an accordion once you cut it. Due to the way it is constructed the cut piece of lattice will shrink and grow when you push and pull on it. So double and triple check you measurements before cutting the lattice and then once cut just trust that you cut it correctly. I fought with the lattice for a long time before I realized that it was changing size on me and all I needed to do was force it back to its original shape. http://diy.homedepot.ca/diy/project.jsp?pid=267&langId=-15§ion=overview Recommended Tools
